Ad For The Sonny [Bono] Comedy Revue, 3.3 mb

After Sonny Bono split up with Cher, ABC gave him his own variety show. Mal Sharpe was hired by ABC to travel around America with a TV crew and ask folks on the street what they thought of Sonny. They could say anything, pro or con. In Las Vegas the crew got backstage and and interviewed Robert Goulet, Mel Torme and Juliet Prowse.

On this trip there was another historic moment. Richard Nixon was on the verge of being impeached. A Senate
committee was meeting to decide what to do. News crews and Anchors from all the networks were waiting outside. The Committee came out and the cameras flocked to Nixon’s main supporter, Senator Peter Rodino. Mal stuck out his microphone and got in the first question, “Senator, what do you think of Sonny Bono?” The Senator’s jaw dropped and ABC Anchor Frank Reynolds was furious. The video is lost.
